Essential Oils, What’s The Big Deal?

Everywhere I look lately, I see something about essential oils.  I began wondering what the big deal is about these little bottles of oil.  Why is everyone talking about them in the health industry?

A lady in my neighborhood advertised an introduction meeting.  I went to check it out and ordered a sampler of lemon essential oil, peppermint and lavender.  Linda, the lady doing the presentation, talked about all of the uses for the oils.  Most of them were health related, but there were other uses as well, such as cleaning, deodorizing and personal beauty.  Essential oils have been used thousands of years for the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.  They don’t have the deadly side effects that many pharmaceutical medications have.

Linda, the essential oil lady, had a cute little diffuser going with the oils in it.  It uses cold water and several drops of oil.  The diffuser disperses the essential oils into the air and smells wonderful.  I ordered one of those too.  This felt like the safest way to try out the benefits of essential oils.  You can put oils in the diffuser to help you relax and sleep better, or breathe better  when you have congestion.  You can put oils that will ward off infection or help reduce stress.  I loved this idea.  My daughter has occasional breathing difficulty, so I can’t wait to try a diffuser to help her breathing instead of using all of those strong steroids all the time.  Maybe we can ward off some of those treatments.

PureSpa Deluxe Ultrasonic Aromatherapy Oil Diffuser - High Capacity Aroma Diffuser Lasts for Up to 10 Hours with Automatic Shut-Off for Home & Office Safety

This is the diffuser I ordered on Amazon.  It was cheaper at the time I ordered it, but it’s well worth this price too.  It lasts up to 10 hours.  Here’s another good choice.

When I plugged it in and used it for the first time, my family all made fun of me.  They told me I was getting really wacky about this health stuff.  But….guess what?  Now they all beg me to turn it on!  My kids and my husband have all grown to love the diffuser.  I’m not even sure why, maybe because it smells good or maybe it helps them feel relaxed.  Whatever the reason, I’m very happy.  The oils lasted for several months.  Even though they are small bottles, the oil is very concentrated and you only use a few drops at a time.

You can mix the essential oils with carrier oils as well, when using them topically, which helps the oil last longer too.  Some great carrier oils are fractionated coconut oil, which is a liquid form of coconut oil, or jojoba oil.

I ran out of oil about a month ago and everyone in my family begged me to get more.  I have to admit, I was hooked too.  I bought a bigger selection this time and can’t wait to look up recipes on Pinterest about everything from making a natural facial moisturizer to eliminating unwanted bacteria and pathogens.  One of the things I love most is the cellular support from essential oils.  With all of the pollutants and toxic chemicals we are exposed to, who couldn’t use some cellular support that won’t harm the good cells in your body?

Here are some important tips when considering essential oils:

1.  It is important to buy pure, therapeutic oils, as some of the oils in the stores contain added fillers and synthetics. You want them to be as effective as possible.

2. It is also important that the plants that go into the oils are grown in an organic environment with soil that is best suited to that type of plant.  Check where the oils are sourced from.

3.  Be careful when buying oils from an online third party seller.  Unfortunately there are dishonest people in the world that will try to deceive you by switching oils in the original bottle.

I did a lot of research online and by picking the brains of my friends in the nutrition and wellness world before buying oils.  I can help you get pure therapeutic grade essential oils too.  Email me at  I can also help with essential oil education and how to use them for health benefits in your home.
